This past Friday, September 27th, was the Makeover Preview Party for Friendship House. This historical home will be a transitional residence for women in recovery of alcohol and substance abuse and their children. I am lucky to call myself one of the room designers set to create a warm, comforting and well designed living environment for those in need. My room is entitled “Growth.” I am going to use literal designs to evoke this emotion: a tree stump dining table, berry framed mirror and floral fabrics. The wall color is called “Reddish” by Sherwin Williams to help the women feel power and energy as they start each day. Greens and blues will help reinforce growth, calm and relaxation. There will be two twin beds, desks, desk chairs, a dining area, dresser and of course lots of wonderful accessories. Organization is key to success so making the space livable and functional is imperative. This Spring the renovation will be complete and the house will be up and running. I can’t wait to see the final product.
More on Friendship House:
Friendship House, a historic Hyde Park home, opened its doors in 1992 to provide structure and support for women in recovery of alcohol and substance abuse with transitional residential service. It is undergoing restoration for needed repairs. ReDiscover is actively seeking private sources, as public funding is diminishing. If you are interested in donating to the restoration campaign contact ReDiscover’s Development Director at 816.347.3215.
ReDiscover’s plan is to renovate historic Friendship House to its grand glorious state, providing additional residential facility space for women receiving comprehensive substance abuse treatment services and serve more young children at the onsite daycare at Catherine’s Place thereby creating ReDiscover Women and Children’s Campus at Friendship House and Catherine’s Place.
